WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead a team of geotechnical professionals, giving direction, guidance and assistance with regards to work and personal development.
  • Development of the slope designs, using the latest numerical modelling tools to enhance safe mine designs.
  • Optimise and refine design parameters based on mapping data and review geotechnical domain delineations.
  • Create a database for Slope Monitoring system, slope failures, rock mass classifications, monitoring of critical controls, etc.
  • Participate in accident/incident investigation related to rockfalls, slope or bench failures.
  • Engage and maintain communication with relevant engineering, mining, operations and technical services, external consultants, DMPR and organised labour.
  • Ensure TARP system and Dump Management is optimised for dump stability and operational safety.
  • Review and update relevant policies and procedures in line with governance principles and changes.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • B Eng . Mining Engineering / BSc Geology or equivalent.
  • Chamber of Mines Rock Engineering Certificate.
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in an operational role within a geotechnical department of which 3 should be in a supervisory role for open pit geological operations.
  • Opencast working environment exposure, displaying strength in slope design & modelling, slope monitoring systems and ground control in opencast mining.
  • Proven relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills & ability to direct employees to achieve set targets.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with enhanced presentation and reporting skills.
  • Computer Literacy: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid Code B driver’s license and must be able to obtain a Certificate of Medical Fitness.
