WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Manage the geological functions relating to grade control, ore definition drilling, database management, resource estimation and ensuring ongoing continuous improvement in the practices.
- Compliance to Health and Safety guidelines and company standards.
- Formulate the annual operating and capital budgets for the department in line with the business plan.
- Ensure optimal utilization and management of the pit by minimizing dilution, maintaining an optimal MCF, and provide accurate geological information for mining practices. Key inputs would be successful mining of selective ore loading on a variable dip geometry.
- RoM stockpile management and ore accounting to support blended feed to the plant.
- Ensure timely delivery and update of the resource models for the Gamsberg deposit.
- Resource calculation and reporting according to JORC experience.
- Ensure geological support is provided to the Mining and Metallurgy departments, by the timely provision of information necessary for detailed mine planning, scheduling and ore characterization.
- Manage grade control planning to ensure maximum ore recovery, minimize ore dilution and increase the mine resource.
- Mentor and coach the geology team to improve their knowledge and practices within the business.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Four-year Honours Degree in Earth Sciences.
- At least 10 years’ experience in an operational role within a geology department of which 6 should be in a supervisory role for open pit geological operations.
- Familiarity with selective ore loading on a variable dip geometry.
- Proven relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with an ability to direct employees to achieve set targets.
- Computer Literacy: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project); 3D Mining Software; Leapfrog, Datamine and Maxwell.
- Valid Code B driver’s license and must be able to obtain a Certificate of Medical Fitness.
