Announcement of a fatality following an accident at Skorpion Zinc

Rosh Pinah, 27 September 2017: Skorpion Zinc is deeply saddened to confirm that an employee of Prinsloo Drilling, Mr Stephanus Moore, has tragically passed away after being seriously injured in a borehole drilling accident at Skorpion Zinc Mine on Saturday 19 August.

The Board and Management of Skorpion Zinc and the greater Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) extend their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues. All VZI operations will observe a minute’s silence this morning as we remember his life.

Mr. Moore sustained a serious head injury while working on the installation of a new dewatering borehole casing. He was initially assessed at the Sidadi Clinic in Rosh Pinah and, as he needed expert trauma care, was airlifted to hospital in Cape Town. He remained in a critical condition until his passing away yesterday afternoon, surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr. Moore is survived by his parents, his son, two sisters and a brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time, and we will continue to extend our support to them.
