Clinic (Primary Health Care) Access
Black Mountain Mine through their Corporate Social Responsibility has ensured upgrades to the local Khâi-Ma Community Hospital (Community Health Centre) to assist in efficient service delivery from these institutions. Maintaining this hospital/health centre ensures that approximately 4000 patients receive efficient service during an annum.
Cataract Surgeries
BMM remains committed to the Zero Harm bottom-line, in reaching the goal several health initiatives are activated every year. The Eye Care Surgeries Tour takes place annually in collaboration with the South-African National Council of the Blind (SANCB) and the Northern Cape Department of Health. Since the commencement of this project, 1530 community members have been assisted. The Eye Care surgery tour is set to continue in 2021 on the recommendation of the SANCB.
Health Outreach – PinkDrive Mobile Cancer Programme.
The annual PinkDrive breast (Mammogram) and prostate examination program aims to assist in the early detection and treatment of breast and prostate cancer within the Namakwa District and BMC host communities within the Khai-Ma Municipal Area. VZI celebrated its 5th year of this programme in 2020. Mobile trucks are deployed to visit the communities and residents are encouraged to undergo the relevant testing. The PinkDrive program reinforces the mine's continuous commitment to access healthcare services. The close partnership between VZI-BMC and the Department of Social Development and Health is one of the great successes of this program.
